During the summer, Tundra Swans breed in Alaska and northern Canada, then migrate south each winter. They can be found anywhere lakes, ponds and marshes remain ice-free - from southern Alaska to Utah and Nevada and as far south as Baja California. These swans were part of a flock that found an open pond in Idaho across the border west of Afton, Wyoming. We may have expedited their departure, but the pond completely froze over within days of our visit. Their departure allowed us to capture their simply elegance in flight.
